Some aggrieved members of Oyo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stormed the governor’s office in Ibadan, state capital to protest against consensus arrangement to pick the party candidates for the forthcoming local government elections.
The protesters who came from Oyo East local government expressed their displeasure over the latest directive by the party leaders to adopt consensus approach instead of the going for party primaries to produce candidates for the May 21 local government election.
The leader of the protesters, Mr Lukman Adeyanju, told journalists that since aspirants have fulfilled all the laid down requirements to contest the party primaries, it is wrong for leaders to resort to consensus arrangement.
He warned there would be political consequences if party primaries does not hold to pick candidates for the election.
Addressing the protesters, the chief of staff to the governor, Chief Bisi Ilaka called for calm, assuring that the Governor and government of the state will not do anything that contrary to the will of the people.
