The Secretary to the Ondo State Government, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde has denied the story trending on social media that he had left the All Progressive Congress, to join the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party.
Abegunde was said to have dumped APC with two cabinet members of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
WesternLifeNews had reported that Ondo State Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi on Sunday left the APC to return to PDP, putting an end to speculations of his planned defection
But in a swift reaction to the development, Abegunde, insisted that he remains in the APC and asked his supporters to discountenance the report that he has defected to the PDP, describing the claim as “a mischievous falsehood.”
He however pledged his total loyalty to the APC, saying as a founding member of the party in the state, he would never abandon the party and remain committed to “the progressive family and its ideology.”
“I, Ifedayo Sunday Abegunde has not and will not decamp from the All progressive Congress APC.
“I am a founding member of the party In Ondo state and I will not abandon the ship I built.
Abegunde recounted how he was treated badly by the immediate past administration, for joining defunct Action Congress of Nigeria ACN (one of the parties merged to form the APC).
According to him, “It is on record that I was singled out by the past administration for unparalleled victimization because I joined the progressive fold, under the now defunct Action Congress of Nigeria ACN. The legal persecution which I went through will remain a point of reference for a long time.”
