The remains of Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma, a civil society leader and renowned human rights activist has been committed to mother earth.
A week long funeral ceremony came to an end on Thursday with the funeral service and internment which took place on Thursday, 13th May 2021 at Umuodia, Imo state.
His burial was witnessed by politicians, leaders and members of civil society organisations, and community leaders across Nigeria.
Among those witnessed the ceremony were former Governor of Imo State, Dr Emeka Ihediora, Comrade Emma Edigheji representing Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Eze Dr Amb Goodluck Obi, Comrades Lanre Arogundade, Edeatan – Ojo of Media Rights, Comrade AWA Bamiji, Solomon Sobade, Prof Etanbi Alemika, Board Chairman, Cleen Foundation.
Chukwuma, who was globally recognised as an advocate for human rights and good governance died on Sunday April 3, 2021 in Lagos at the age of 55.
During his life time, he was the West Africa director of Ford Foundation, which he joined as a representative in 2013.
Chukwuma was also the founder of Centre for Law Enforcement Education, popularly known as CLEEN Foundation.
